Beaverfever

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Friday night Tay and I were watching Monk.  TV is actually a good time with Tay; he’ll talk to you more during commercials than the whole rest of the day combined.
Tay:  Have you ever heard of Beaver Fever?
Me: (wondering when he saw a Penthouse/Playboy)…..  um, no…….
Tay:  It’s a disease that makes you poop out your intestines.  (laughs [...]

homework help

Friday, January 19th, 2007

Taylor:  Mom, Mrs. Wagner told us we had to ask our parents these questions.
Me:  Go ahead.
Taylor: ”An example of a simili, metaphor and a hyperbole.”
Me:  “Ugh……” (but I finally come up with examples)
Taylor:  (gleefully)  “Thanks, mom, you just did my homework.”
He thinks he’s so clever, but, haha, I think both my metaphor and hyperbole were wrong (and I [...]

A Disney “world view”

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

While helping my daughter prepare dinner (chicken fried chicken, mashed potato potatoes and yeasty yeast rolls) we watched American Idol.  One of the awful (yet train wreck like, can’t take your eyes off of it) initial episodes showing the audition process.  There was a young man with large, darkly lashed eyes.  Simon (ascerbic judge) pronounced him “bushbaby like.”  Do [...]

Washington DC trip, part 3

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

The flight was fine, a little turbulent, but not bad.
Washington DC was grey and rainy.  Our charter bus was waiting and we headed to the Reagan building for lunch. It was the first of many food court meals.  The boys mainly ate nachos, pizza or chinese. We tried some gelato, yummy, and then headed out to Arlington [...]

Got MLK?

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Many years ago…
Sitting in Comp 110. The teacher requires us lowly students to write an in class essay about what we did (the day before) on MLK Jr Day.
At the time my kids were 5 and 6.  We had spent the day bowling with my best friend MarySue and her kids.
Bowling and the civil rights movement… not an easy connection to make, especially [...]

Washington DC trip, part 2

Friday, January 12th, 2007

I was seated on the bus directly behind the driver, Jesus.
The teacher that coordinated the trip sat on the floor next to the driver because he needed directions; yes, the professional bus driver needed directions to CHICAGO, the largest city in our entire state.
Despite running seriously late our driver drove at a very, let’s say, methodical pace.  [...]

Washington DC trip, part 1

Friday, January 12th, 2007

This last fall (Oct 2006) I went with my son’s middle school on a trip to Washington, DC.  It was interesting, exhausting, wonderful and exasperating, all at once.
A few facts: There were 33 seventh and eighth grade students and 12 adults (only two men) on this three night, four day trip to Washington DC, the Naval Aademy in Annapolis, and Baltimore, MD.
The [...]

“The Donald?”

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

I think there have been more stories about Trump vs O’Donnell than the Iraq war, nuts, huh?
How did Donald Trump become so famous?  What is his appeal?

I like to think that I am a naturally happy person.  I usually have a good attitude and am pretty upbeat.
However, lately I am feeling pretty despondent.  I believe due to my husband being so stressed/depressed/angry, etc…
I feel like I am walking on eggshells all the time.  If I say anything it turns out [...]

Black-sheep-in-law

Monday, January 8th, 2007

My daughter made a basket at her game this weekend.  It was incredibly exciting.  My kids, luckily for them (ha, ha) seem to have inherited my great sports skills.  Basically anytime they actually touch the ball during a game it’s a victory.

My husband might be leaving work early today and bringing my brother-in-law, Walt.  [...]
